Jorge Luis Mendoza Navarro, a Colombian former soldier and French Foreign Legion paratrooper, arrived in Ukraine in August 2023. On November 22, 2023, during a relief mission south of Bakhmut, his group was attacked by mortars, killing four Colombians and wounding Spaniard Miguel Ortiz Lavin. Mendoza allegedly executed Ortiz at close range days later. Mendoza later joined the GUR Omega unit.
